History
The coastal community of Navarre is located on Santa Rosa Island along the barrier of the Gulf of Mexico.
Presently considered one of the world’s most ideal places to live, Navarre was originally claimed by Spanish settlers in the nineteenth century.
In the 1920’s, retired Army Colonel Guy Wyman relocated from Defuniak Springs with his wife to the untainted Floridian coastline and named it after a beloved region in northern Spain.
Navarre remained largely undeveloped into the early 1960’s, when the Navarre Beach Bridge connected it to the rest of the world and spurned the growth of a momentous tourist industry.
The community grew at a startling pace into the late 70’s when renowned Hollywood director Steven Spielberg chose the isolated paradise of Santa Rosa Sound as a setting for his cinema classic Jaws II!
Currently, Gulf Breeze is a waterfront community of roughly six-thousand inhabitants situated just minutes from downtown Pensacola priding itself on top-quality educational facilities, exceptional local government, and warm, small-town citizenry.
Although Navarre is currently an unincorporated township, the city of Gulf Breeze incorporated in the 1960’s and boasts eighteen miles of gorgeous shorelines!
